A1 Dental has been part of Canterbury’s London Road for over 30 years, serving generations of local families. When Dr Somitra Banvir acquired the practice in 2015, he wasn’t starting something new, he was continuing relationships with patients he’d already been treating for more than a decade as an associate dentist here.
That continuity matters. Walk into many dental practices today and you’ll see different faces every visit, temporary staff who don’t know your history or that you prefer morning appointments. At A1 Dental, you see the same people who remember your name, your children’s names, and exactly how you like your check-ups to run.
Our dental nurse Lori has been here for 15 years. Amy, our hygienist, joined in 2009. When patients tell us they chose to stay with A1 Dental, it’s rarely about the building or the location, it’s about the people. It’s about walking in and being greeted by someone who genuinely cares how you’re doing.
We haven’t expanded into multiple locations or become part of a corporate chain. We’ve stayed deliberately focused on one thing: being excellent at providing thoughtful, skilled dental care to patients in Canterbury and across East Kent. The families who started coming here in the 1990s now bring their children and grandchildren. Some of our patients span three generations. When Dr Banvir took ownership in 2015, he invested in technology that genuinely improves the patient experience, not gadgets for the sake of having them, but tools that save you time and make treatment more comfortable.
Our CEREC machine creates permanent ceramic crowns while you wait, usually within a few hours. No temporary crowns, no return visits, no waiting weeks for a laboratory to make your restoration. For patients travelling from Deal, Dover, Ramsgate or Margate, this convenience eliminates extra journeys. For everyone, it means walking out with your permanent crown fitted the same day.
We replaced uncomfortable impression trays with digital scanning. The iTero scanner captures detailed 3D images of your teeth in minutes—no gagging on putty, no waiting for impressions to set. Patients consistently tell us the digital scanning experience is dramatically better than traditional impressions. We use it for planning dental implants, Invisalign treatment, and creating crowns that fit perfectly first time.
Our digital radiography system uses significantly less radiation than traditional X-rays while producing clearer images instantly. We can show you the images on a screen and explain exactly what we’re seeing, rather than you wondering what we’re looking at.
We’ve also expanded what we offer. Dr Banvir completed specialist training in dental implants (2012) and earned his MSc in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry (2015). We now provide Invisalign clear aligners, facial aesthetics, advanced cosmetic work, and complex restorative treatments alongside comprehensive general and family dentistry.
